FRAME THE LORE is for freelance filmmakers, independent videographers, video editors who shoot their own footage, documentary creators and visual storytellers.
We're looking for people who can work independently, capture authentic moments and transform footage into a compelling finished film.

FILM 01 | PRODUCT STORYTELLING
Yamaroku Shoyu Tsuru Bishio
Create a compelling short-form film featuring this four-year-aged Japanese wooden-barrel soy sauce. Explore its craftsmanship, character, visual details or culinary applications. Use cinematography, lighting, composition, sound and editing to turn a product into a story worth watching.
FILM 02 | DOCUMENTARY STORYTELLING
People, Places & Authentic Stories
Submit a film demonstrating your ability to document real people, places, interviews or unscripted moments. A Japan-related film is welcome but not mandatory. Previously created work is acceptable if you personally filmed and edited it.

BRING YOUR OWN GEAR
Your camera is part of the brief.
A DSLR or mirrorless camera is mandatory. Participants must independently provide all equipment required to film, record audio, capture footage and edit both submissions.
SpicedLore will not provide or reimburse camera equipment, accessories, equipment rentals or production gear for the contest submissions or the Japan journey.
Participants must be capable of independently operating their equipment and completing the entire production process.

SpicedLore will provide a recommendation letter to support the winner's visa application. Visa issuance is subject to the decision of the relevant authorities.
The travel opportunity is non-transferable, cannot be rescheduled at the winner's request and cannot be exchanged for cash or another monetary benefit. If the selected winner cannot travel or fulfil the agreed requirements, the organiser may withdraw the selection and choose another eligible participant at its discretion.

FRAME THE LORE is organised by SpicedLore, an initiative of Tropical Trading Co. The entry fee is ₹999 and is non-refundable once registration is completed. Payment does not guarantee winning or travel to Japan.
This is an individual contest. The registered participant must personally plan, film and edit both videos. Team entries or work filmed or edited by another person are ineligible.
Submit both films by 20 December 2026 using the Google Drive link provided after registration. Follow all published specifications. Late, incomplete or non-compliant entries may be rejected.
A DSLR or mirrorless camera is mandatory. Participants provide all filming and editing equipment. Submissions must be original, with necessary permissions for third-party footage, music, graphics, locations and other materials.
Only one winner will be selected. Judging may consider cinematography, creative direction, storytelling, editing, sound, technical execution, product interpretation and documentary ability. The decision is final, subject to applicable law.
The winner is expected to be announced in the first week of January 2027. They must respond promptly and fulfil travel and documentation requirements. If unable to travel, unresponsive or unable to meet requirements, the winner may be replaced by another eligible participant at the organiser's discretion.
The trip is planned for the second or third week of February 2027, lasting approximately one week or longer depending on the itinerary. SpicedLore covers return airfare, accommodation and itinerary-related domestic travel. The winner pays for passport and visa arrangements, travel insurance, food, drinks, personal excursions, optional experiences, shopping and personal expenses. SpicedLore will provide a visa recommendation letter, but approval rests with the relevant authorities. The winner must follow applicable laws, safety instructions and the agreed itinerary. Travel is non-transferable, cannot be rescheduled at the winner's request and cannot be exchanged for cash.
Participants retain ownership of original submissions, subject to third-party rights. SpicedLore intends to publish only the winner's content on its official platforms. Non-winning entries will not be used promotionally without separate permission. The winner must agree in writing to reasonable usage rights for content created during the Japan trip, specifying platforms, attribution, editing and duration.
The organiser may disqualify entries for rule violations, misleading information, infringement or failure to meet requirements. Reasonable changes to contest administration or travel may be made when necessary, with material changes communicated to affected participants. Cancellations, refunds and remedies remain subject to published policies and applicable law.
